Hi
I am the ride coordinator for TOMCC East Kent and next June we are planning to go to the Black Forest for five nights.
We will be going via Eurotunnel, so what I am after is the route down through France, Belgium to the Ardennes, along the Mosel Valley to the Black Forest, as I understand this is one of the picturesque routes, I do not mind using some motorways at the start, but would prefer non motorways after that if possible.
Also a route back, coming through France, to Eurotunnel, again using a mixture or roads including some motorways.
We would need an overnight stop on the way down also one on the way back and would be open to suggestions of where to stop and hotels, we liked the Ibis Budget Hotels we used this year in Bayeux, France.
We are not too sure where we will base ourselves, but somewhere south of Baden-Baden in the middle of the Black Forest.
I have found a lot of routes to ride while in the Black Forest, so not too worried where to go when we are there.
There must be a lot of bikers that have done this, so I would appreciate any help and GPX routes. Thanking You
BernieP
Hi Bernie,
You have many great choices of routes you could take, so many in fact that I would not like to recommend one route only to you, but instead urge you to think about what you would most like to see and what would best suit your group.
That said, here are a couple of suggestions via screenshots so that you can see the approximate route.
The first takes in more of rural France and the second concentrates more on interesting historical cities and has more motorway and explores Germany more
Route 1:
Route 2:
On both screenshots you can see the proposed route shown in black,
the other colours are the from the BestBikingRoads database
as I used the
Motorcycle Touring Trip Builder to build this route.
You can also use the BBR Trip Builder if you are a site sponsor.
Have a good trip.
David
Thank you David for your suggestions, I will certainly look into them both. Have you been to the Black forest by any of these routes?
BernieP
Hi Bernie,
I made those routes with the trip builder to give you an idea, so no, I have not travelled them.
I have however, travelled to all of the individual areas that the route takes many times so I know the areas quite well.
Probably you realise that I am the creator of BBR so you might imagine that my motorcycle travel knowledgeis pretty extensive (I left the UK about 17 years ago to live on the continent and have travelled a lot in that time)
If it were my trip, I would take the motorway to about Namur/Dinant (Belgium) and then follow the Ardennes, Eifel and Mosel to the black forest, Vosges also highly recommended.
But as with all trips, it is always personal.
Good luck whatever you decide, drop by for coffee if you end up near Brussels :)
David
Thanks again David

You may well have laid your plans, but in case you still are open to suggestions.
Sedan in France is a nice place to stop off at on the way down to the BF. You can pick up part of the Ardennes to get there and some cracking roads around Chimay. Revin etc.
Day2 from Sedan you could head toward Verdun, and pass a cple of Memorials before heading East toward Germany....a def recommend is the Hotel Schloss Hornberg. It sits on a hill overlooking the little Town, and has a medieval banquet/entertainment night set under the old Castle. From Hornberg its easy to make a few round robin trips; centre of the BF, south down toward the Swiss border or back toward the Danube. Coming home you could go through part of the Vosges, or head up towards Cochem in Germany and then hit part of the Eifel region as you do your final leg to Calais.
Thanks for the info we have decided on the routes down and back, but will have a look at your suggestions and see if we can incorporate some of it.
