I drove this road April this year, and yes! It is still a great road to ride it! As the last review on this site is dated some time back, I am merely confirming that it is still great! :-)
Fantastic scenery, great corners but unfortunately too busy road. Added some mores photos too.
If your going down this far take the trip to figeures its where the dali museum is fantastic rides all around the area argeles and the other costal towns are naked beaches and tanned bodies in the summer .Try the cave at banyuls fantastic trip round but try not to drink to much .If your knee down scrathing try the road from le boulou to the spanish border beware french renault 5`s with slicksiv`e seen them as they know the roads and are prepared to take blind corners on faith. In the summer the roads can be busy and the tamac soft beware the mountain roads in cooler conditions as it may look grippy but can be like glass with no grip in the surface as polished during the summer from high use.
A wonderful stretch of road with great sufrace and plenty of corners, a joy to ride during the off season but between July/August (when I was there) its handles plenty of traffic (especially caravans) which takes away a lot of the enjoyment. Go when its quiet and prepare to be amazed!
The French part of a really excellent route riding from the Costa Brava coastline in Spain along the Pyrenees and up to Collioure where they hit the Mediterranean and into France. Serious corners so if youre going to ride fast keep your eyes wide open. Best ridden out of season, ie between Sept and June as there can be a lot of traffic on this route in high season which makes for interesting riding!
Thanks the vid is 5gb before compression and is very clear sadly internet restrictions demand a poorer repro.
Great videos Nigel, thanks for sharing.
Rode the coast road from Leucate and down through Saint Marie and Saint Cyprien and onto the N114/260, and on through Port Vendres, Cerbere, and across the border onto the Costa Brava. The photos are not too clever but they'll give you some idea. All in all, a great route.
We live and run a b+b called Coup de Coeur 20 minutes from this road so visit it many times a year with clients who stay with us, the road needs to be respected, you can ride it very fast but there are more than a few corners that tighten up unexpectedly so be warned, ride the vanishing point!
Look at the map! Drove (hire car :( ) France to Spain so views not as spectacular and difficult to pull in as on wrong side of road. Popular with local bikers , and no wonder up,down, round and around. Not at all bad for a main route from one country to the other. But with all the traffic a route like this brings. Not such a problem on a bike tho'. Wonderous and perfect surface. Keep your wits about you if you are going to get, ahem, pacy! A joy. Its the N260 again innit!
