Nice scenery, few nice corners
We hebben deze route gereden begin juni 2023. Fantastische weg met zeer goed asfalt. Een aanrader als je van snelle en lange bochten houdt met hoge snelheden.
Well Im pleased to report that the road surface has changed dramatically at Chateau Chinon since the original review was written. The twisty section just to the West now has that super-grippy sandpaper-like surface put down, but without the associated hazardous piles of it accumulated offline. Its so good that I went there twice last summer and rode this 2k section 3 or 4 times in each direction. Beware not to attract the wrong kind of attention doing this as the Gendarmes must know theres an easy target when they hear screaming race exhausts coming up the hill. Photos & Video to follow. The rest of the route to Autun is brilliant - varied views of forest, open countryside, villages, hills and valleys. Good road surface, plenty of overtaking places and excellent fast sweeping bends. The section to the west of Chateau Chinon to Nevers is also a good road, but not as enjoyable. Large sections of it were being resurfaced summer 2008. Go enjoy!
This is a good section of road with wide sweeping bends and few surprises, though watch out for one bend with white lines across the carriageway, especially in the wet. It can get a bit busy, I've even been stuck behind a boat transporter! You can stop at Chateau Chinon or continue. Beware the surface on the hairpins West of Ch Chinon, the surface was terrible every time I've ridden it.
