Lovely Route.Watch out for the Devils Elbow downhill hairpin just before Wiveliscombe when heading East.
Done the Bampton to South Molton bit, wow ! I that direction it's a great gradual climb, TT esque, new road surface, trafic & fuzz free, magic.
I travelled this route 2x a week in the 1960's, in my Mum's A30. It was then still the A361 - I remember a very sharp bend near Bampton, I think where the road crosses the Exe. I'll have to ride the route, now I'm a rusty rider!
What I liked about this route was the lack of villages and general lack of tourist/police interest.
Great way in and out of the west country for bikers. The Emmets (grockles) don't know this route and it's a lovely sweeping swooping biker road. It's not as spectacular as Dartmoor or Exmoor, but a great way to get west avoiding main roads and tourists. It's good right through Torrington and beyond.
Use the B3227 not the A road...
This road is better riding from South Molton to Taunton as the corners gradually open up.
