Some say it is the best in the entire country. In doubt, it is very close to that. At the time I rode it the tarmac was great. I could be writting a book about this road, but I won´t... Find it! Ride it!
Ive ridden in other places (and countries), trying always to avoid highways and A roads, ive seen roads as spectacular as this, but none better. If you can try it, if youre portuguese, like roads with lots of turns with very good tarmac, and live nearby youre a lucky guy!!!!
Great alternative route to reach Algarve from Lisbon.Further north one can take the ferry from Setubal to Troia and ride down the coast to this road.(review coming soon)
The EN112 or N112 as it appears on most maps is best ridden from West to East - from Castelo Branco towards the coast all the way to Lousa, it is a great road, and allows you to ride it going upwards, so allows for power to be appllied as you hit the apex on the curves and power out, you can then link this road from Lousa to the N17 follow towards Seia, till you get to the N230, ride the N230 from East to West, all the way to Covilha, and from Vide onwards this s one of the best riders you will ever take, this whole ride is a full day out and their are hotels in Lousa and Covilha, this whole area has amazing roads not known to most riders from any country, please visit and see the fine roads.
You can see my movie production on the links above, HD quality, Good Turns
Not as spectacular as Alps/Pyrenees but total abscence of traffic means it's right up there with the best mountain roads. Ace.
From Góis is you get about 5 km's of very bad road, but after a roundabout it gets pretty good with very fast and open corners. After Pampilhosa da Serra it changes a bit to tighter and less visible corners, but it's still good almost all the way to Castelo Branco. Watch for gravel and sand on the edge of the road, keep your line away from the edge to avoid surprises because the tarmac it too white to notice it sometimes.
400 bends. Some in 2nd gear, scrapping, others 4th, scrapping, to No traffic
Typical view all around the Gois area. Gois is the Admin town for 5 rural Parishes. Fairly undiscovered. Very forested.
Gois Town. Biker capitol of Portugal. Come stay. Roads improved since last write up. Still no traffic.
