Enlarge map and look at the twisties hAlf wa up the route..Crazy
Ride this strip as I did 12/14 and hit the unbanked 160 degree turns with ice patches....Scary on a full dresser..At night you almost or I recommend a car in front as a spotlight and speed estimate...
The banking pushes you into oncoming or even off the road...
I took this route to Grand Canyon at 530am..80 minutes I think..My trip was no snow but 9 degrees on highway in Flagstaff.
Minus 10 degrees with windchill at 70mph
2014 - The road in the twisty/switchback section has been recently redone and is in great shape. The road north of the repaved section is in OK shape with a deep scratch/crack running parallel to the direction of travel right where your tire wants to be if you are a left-third of the road kind of rider like myself. Nothing that will wreck you, but I was worried about what it would be like in the twisties. Luckily the twisty section was perfect.
The section between the switch-backs and the town of Sedona is in good condition.
If you wants some great views while in Sedona, as you come into town there is a free parking garage, ride all the way up to the top for some great views.
Fantastic valley scenary and a wicked selection o switchbacks here, words really cannot do the scenary justice, you simply have to see it for yourself.
