It's a shame WV Route 88, North of 40, has gone downhill quite a bit. It is rutted quite badly in the middle of the road where the double yellow line is with tire eating potholes. If you're going to try this road be prepared to bob and weave until WV DOT gets off of its ass and does something about fixing it. When it's at average condition it's a decent enough little road that can get a bit busy as you head south, but not too shabby, at all.
