You have a choice of three roads here, the top road on the right is mostly fast with sweeping bends, the middle (A350) tight, twisty fast in places if you have balls, many villages (my favourite) or left over the river stour from bland ford to stir Newton, great twisty route with a few villages. Go through lights at stur n head for Sherborne fantastic twisty roads with a few villages, see ya there ;)
I've posted this up as well, However the A350 North (& South) between Blandford & Shaftesbury has many speed limits now. Better to take the Higher Shaftesbury road or the B3091 North at Sturminster Newton if you want to get to Shaftesbury.v/
In the early 1980s I used to ride some of this route on my way from home to Bournemouth (where I was at college). I love this road, and vowed that my ashes will be spread along its route. Right at Lydlinch Common, past Sturminster Newton on the 357, I went through the avenue of beech trees at Badbury Rings. Ive done this route on a Yamaha SR250SE, a CB250T, a Triumph 5TA, a GS750 and my old K100RT and loved it on all of them. I even did the route when there was 8 of snow! Happy days! And later this year, Ill be taking the wife on the R1100RT.
in my opinion this is one of the best routes in wiltshire area, great fun and i would recommend it to anyone. be weary of the odd camera in villages, and the rare police car.
This is one of my favorite short routes which can easily be incorporated into a full length ride. Leave Sherborne on the A352 (see my other routes) but turn left onto the Sturminster Newton road (A3030) shortly after leaving Sherborne. The A3030 is a great road in excellent condition with lots of fast, open corners a few villages and some very technical corners with inclines and even the odd hump back bridge / corner. Turn right at the T-Junction at the end of this road and head towards Sturminster along the A357. Continue on towards Blandford Forum. At the traffic lights turn left and follow the A350 to Shaftesbury. This is a great road. The Stourpaine bends are really good. While you are in Shaftesbury it would be rude not to try ZIG ZAG hill. See Jon Bs ride from Shaftesbury to Ringwood for more info.
