Rode this August 1, 2015. This review is for the east side going down from the Lick Observatory to 130/Mines Road. I think it was in 2014 that they chip sealed this stretch and threw gravel on top. One of our riders went down today because of this gravel. Unless you are a sadist, you may want to avoid this section. Now Mines Rd is fantastic!
I loved this route, the views of the south bay are really nice as you climb up to Mt. Hamilton, but the backside was my favorite. Warning watch for crazy bicyclist as you climb up. Going through San Antonio Valley and Del Puerto Canyon were very nice. Highly recommend!
What a wicked piece of roads that twists crazily between the eastern foothills of San jose and interstate 5.
