I´ve ´known´ this road for donkey´s years and always enjoy the ride, especially out of season and in the week. In nice weather, it is a really super ride and I much prefer riding it N to S from Bala. I then head off towards Welshpool for the last 4-5 miles of good riding, before the run back to Telford on the main drwag\r\n\r\nBut if it is foggy or a bit of frost about above Bala, Beware!
I loved this road. On weekdays it´s pretty much empty and then you can just whiz around loads of beautiful bends to your heart´s content, including some lovely ribbon type sections through the heath and over the hills. Can be combined with a trip up the horseshoe pass too.
A thoroughly enjoyable ride if but for the stunning scenery alone! Highly recommended!
A nice road over the top of the Berwyn mountains. The road from Llanfyllin to Llangynog is very pleasant, mostly following the valley floor. There a few blind bends and, after heavy rain, gravel may have be found on the roadway. From Llangynog the road climbs up onto open moorland at about 2,000 feet ABSL. Watch out for sheep as there are a number of blind crests before the road drops down towards Bala.
Heartily recommend this road. Its nothing but fast sweeping corners, the best constant radius bend anywhere, the smoothest surface. Best ridden at off peak times because its the main route to the Llyn Peninsula. Stunning scenery but you may not notice!! Enjoy.
Just a note to say, I wouldn't be temtpted to use the "Track" which leads back to Lake Vyrnwy. I've actualy driven it in the car (sorry) and its absolutly trecherous, even on four wheels. The road surface is very loose and there are some big drops with no barriers if you get it wrong.
Nice scenic ride, but watch out for some farm traffic
