This is known as the Hero Run because of the bits of fairing and knee slider fragments that you'll see in the gutter. It's a test of skill at anything above moderate speed. Police are aware and do attend the area, however the most dangerous element is the local hero who may have more balls than skill...keep an eye out in front , behind and then as they pass you unexpectedly. The B1018 via Latchington is my preferred way to B-on-C, although the alternative B1018 to B1010 via Althorne is worth a try too. Makes a good triangular route from Maldon.
Fantastic!!! Be careful that a red mist does not descend making you believe that you are competing at the IOM TT. And beware of other riders who have succomed to this delusion. Especially on Sundays.
This is not a circular route because Burnham is stuck out on the Dengie Peninsular. For this same reason this road is not too busy (no through traffic) especially on Sundays. On Sundays during the summer this road becomes something of a mecca for bikers, with The Cabin Dairy cafe on Burnham High Street being the focus (where Colin cooks an excellent Full Monty Breakfast!). Most of the road has been resurfaced recently to a very high standard. The new road markings, which have appeared since, include some solid white lines where it is unsafe to overtake. Please do not think that you can do better by ignoring these, they are put there with fast bikes in mind, someone who is going just as fast as you is likely to be coming in the other direction, and it might be me!!! This road is fun and you may find yourself pushing that envelope a bit. It is a good place to test your skills, confidence and improve your riding but please be aware MANY BIKERS HAVE BEEN KILLED ON THIS ROAD IN RECENT YEARS. Dont get sucked into racing with locals or faster riders because they may not want to race, they may just be faster than you, or they may even be too fast for themselves. Even the best riders have been known to overcook it, dont follow them through that hedge! Lecture over; enjoy the ride.
A fantastic ribbon of tarmac. Fast enough to get your tyres hot and sticky, ready for the last section into Burnham: a two mile series of 90 degree, left and right handers.
Short but sweet. Tight and twisty run alongside the river Crouch. 'The Cabin Dairy', a biker friendly cafe in the area.
