I did this from the n orth as far as Grassington. A good road, like nearly all the Dales roads needs high levels of coincentration. The top section has some real tight twisty corners and very narrow sections which open out in the valley bottom to more open curves - well you can see onver the walls to where the road is going! The lower section can be busy with dawdling elderlies in tin boxes who hog the centre of the road.
Great route. It passes through some very nice towns, and I swear Postman Pat lives up there.
This is the second half of my usual clockwise Dales loop. Fantastic stretch with real variety, from narrow twisty bits, some steep hairpins and some faster, open stretchs.
we ride this route about twice a month and it is always a fantastic ride and the scenery is always changing, beware the tight corners at the top of fleet moss i have seen a couple of bikes in the ditch and seen the air ambulance at one crash. There is an excelent cafe in hawes before you either go left or right Ingleton or Ripon its up to you, enjoy!
you really undersell this road! It's awesome in three sections completely different. The first section is open and fairly quick with the usual number of hazards for a road of this type. Then it becomes slow and nadgery through Hubberholme and alongside the river with lots of sharp squirty crests and corners, no high speed but very high alert, gravel, sheep, campers, etc. Nice scenery though. Then it starts to climb, becomes even more twisty, cresty and nadgery with a couple of cattle grids and a couple of corner combos that will have you off at 30mph (too fast you see!). Pause at the summit though and see the sun low in the sky of an evening, a view which takes some beating when it's right! Then some more open stuff before a roller coaster descent toward Hawes which I dare you to open the throttle on - you will get sooo much air you won't come down for a week! Scary but fun. Turn round and do it the other way, it's all different again. Fun.
Turn left at buckden heading to Hubberholme, The George a great pub and then on to Hawes and a ragg back to Ingleton B6255
