Did this road in summer 2011,good run but they had resurfaced towards hawes end. I did this run midweek and there was not a lot of traffic, well worth doing.
great
i ride this road regularly and there is quite a big police presence but this is because there are a lot of boy racer type bikers they are not usually over the top with bikers who ride reasonably (not too slow tho) there is a top bikers cafe in Hawes called Penny garth and then at the other end is the infamous Devils Bridge sometimes upward off 500 bikes in summer but!!! if youy ride it mid week there is nobody there at all so you can really go for it also there is a brew stop at ribblehead viaduct hope this is some use to someone
(Hawes to Devils Bridge section): Leaving Hawes, take the left fork towards the White Scar caves, and enjoy some very fast bends along the valley side. Do be aware of the the near suicidal lambs early season though! Once youve cleared Ingleton, keep it sub-sonic as the local boys in blue do patrol the final stretch to the Bridge. Area is very popular as a beauty spot, so careful of tourists with more attention on the bridge than you on your bike. Head to the obvious Bike Park and youll be fine. Normally a couple of stalls set up in the fields opposite if youve forgotten your gloves! Your return journey is your choice, either head north to Kirkby Steven and then back towards Leyburn shadowing the A66 or test yourself on the same route back - youll know where to let it go! Enjoy - its a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon instead of mowing the lawn!!
Very spectacular, Lots of throttle jockeys about who dont do corners very well, hence a large police presence in Summer. If you find someone who knows how to ride this road well, dont follow them too closely - they can be spectacularly fast if they really know the road, and you could get into trouble very quickly! But enjoy it at your own pace. Some rapid elevation changes at the Hawes end, plenty of air if you want it, serious corners toward the viaduct. Its a stunner.
Take the B6479 out of Settle towards Chapel-le-Dale. When the get to the Ribblehead viaduct tuen right on the B6255 to Hawes. This really is a superb stretch of road and one of the finest in the dales. The first half is a rollercoaster of a road with a grat variety of bends. Stop at the midway point to admire the Ribblehead Viaduct - one of the classic views of the Dales. The second half to Hawes is faster and more open. Very popular with bikes in the summer, so watch out for police. An unmarked blue Subaru patrols this area so keep an eye out.
